CANDIDATE POOL/RELIEF POOL OPPORTUNITIES

Nasittuq Corporation holds the contracts for the Ellesmere Island Commercial Support Contract located at CFS Alert, Nunavut, and North Warning System Project on behalf of Department of National Defence.

We are building candidate and relief pools for back-fill opportunities as well as gathering a pool of pre-screened qualified candidates for future permanent recruitment needs within our Aboriginal Employment Initiatives program.

This position works 48 hours per week on an 8×4 rotation (8 weeks on-site and 4 weeks on leave). Work is carried out in a remote Arctic location with exposure to severe outdoor winter weather conditions.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct cleaning of all common areas such as vacuuming; washing/mopping floors; emptying of all waste containers, disposing of garbage and recycling; washing windows and appliances; dusting; replacing burnt-out bulbs/tubes from light fixtures; laundering sheets, linen, bedding
  • Conduct cleaning the rooms for new occupants and provide fresh linens
  • Will be called on to provide miscellaneous cleaning beyond the scope of regular requirements (e.g. clean up of spills, broken glass, overflowed toilets, renovations, special events, etc.)
  • Remove and clear snow and ice from walkways and stairs to ensure that these areas are maintained ice- and snow-free to allow the safe passage of personnel

Qualifications:

  • Must be physically capable to perform required duties – standing for long periods, lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Related experience an asset
  • Must be eligible for ENHANCED RELIABILITY security clearance, and must pass a company pre-employment medical
  • As overnighting in Thule Greenland is a requirement, must possess a valid passport
  • Ability to work cross-culturally and a strong team player is a must; will need to roll up sleeves and pitch in as and when required
  • Preference will be given to Nunavut Land Claim Beneficiary applicants
